Beach Cleanup

Today I took the kids and went to Jenness Beach in Rye, NH for a beach clean-up. There is an organization based out of Portsmouth called the Blue Ocean Society (http://www.blueoceansociety.org/) which gets funding to do a cleanup once a month. Not only was it an opportunity to get extra credit for my Earth Science class, but it was also an opportunity to help clean up the environment and teach my kids a few things...

It was absolutely amazing how much dog crap was out there... it was so gross! I even found one bag full of it... the owner picked it all up, but decided to leave the bag on the beach. It was quite nasty. People also decide to use the beach as their ashtray and dump all their cigarette butts onto the ground. It's really sad...

We found a washed up, decapitated, dead seal... it looked like it had been dead for a while, but finally washed up with the high tide at some point.

Here are some shots from our day... it was a great day for it... the temps were in the high 50s... woohoo! Funny how living in Maine makes us happy for these "warm" days :)

Below is the amount of trash gathered in 1 hour!

He's growing up...

So, Dennis took the boy & my nephew skiing on Friday... below is a cell phone pic (hence, the quality) that my hubby took just before Trav went down his 1st black diamond! Eeek... when I heard about this, my heart skipped a few beats. The thought of my baby skiing down a steep trail scares me to death! At the same time, it makes me proud to be his mother... he's such a great kid, and everything he does he tries to perfect...
